Elisha is a first-generation Israeli, born and raised in Ma’ale Adumim to American parents who made Aliyah, which makes him an “OG Askenazi Bedouin.” He studied at a Hesder Yeshiva in the Golan Heights, served as a combat soldier and commander in the Kfir brigade, later becoming a military Rabbi and officer. Elisha studied International Relations and Communications at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Yiska is Israeli through and through, with Kurdish, Iraqi, and Moroccan roots, which means amazing food! Yiska loves to cook — and Elisha loves to eat what she cooks – so it works out perfectly. After four years living close to Yiska’s parents, the Gubermans had no idea where to move next… so they decided to go on Shlichut in Ottawa, Canada! Now, after two meaningful and memorable years of Shlichut in Ottawa, they’re heading back home to Israel — with suitcases full of memories, experiences, and quite a bit of maple syrup. Elisha hopes to set up a Shachrit surf club, and Yiska can’t wait to have you for Shabbat meals! Be sure to ask them about the sheep story – you’re in for a laugh.
